There are different types of acne like pimples in the form of cysts. Comedones are one of them which appear mainly on the forehead and chin. We can say it is a milder form of acne but can be equally troublesome. It appears on the face due to the excess production of sebum, dead skin cells and bacteria that clog pores. They can be open comedones (blackheads) and closed comedones (whiteheads).

Causes of Comedones 

As discussed above, it occurs due to the clogged pores which may be due to the excess sebum or breeding bacteria. Let’s discuss the factors which lead to more sebum and bacteria.

• If you have a hormonal imbalance, it results in the production of excess sebum. It can be in teens and adults as well. Hormonal imbalance occurs mainly in puberty and pregnancy. You can treat this by taking professional advice.
• It can be due to genetics. If anyone in your family is prone to comedonal acne, the chances of developing that condition in you become higher.
• If you apply intense moisturiser regularly, it can over hydrate your skin and easily clog your pores, resulting in comedones.
• Smoking habits in adults can result in comedonal acne.
• Eating too much sugar can cause you comedonal acne.
