What are Blemishes?
Blemishes are imperfections that alter someone’s appearance. It may be due to several reasons like acne, age spots, birthmarks and many more. There are various types of blemishes. Let’s have a look.
Acne
Acne also comes under the category of blemishes; it may appear as pimples, blackheads or whiteheads. The extra sebum production clogs pores and results in acne. Also, some bacterial infections and hormonal imbalances result in acne.
Papules
Pimples are sometimes referred to as papules. They may appear individually and also in clusters. These can be in any shape and approximately 1 centimetre in diameter. Papules appear in a range of colours from pink to brown and may be due to chicken pox, eczema and dermatitis.
Nodules
The collection of tissues is called nodules. It is quite painful and larger as compared to papules.
Age Spots
These are small, dark spots that can appear in any area of the skin due to sun exposure. So, we can say age spots are the type of hyperpigmentation.
Ingrown Hair
Ingrown hair can be caused by hair removal techniques like waxing, tweezing and others. In this, the hair grows back into the skin and becomes trapped, resulting in red bumps.
Melasma
The appearance of brown patches on the skin, especially during pregnancy, is named melasma. It can be due to hormonal imbalance and excessive sun exposure.
Hyperpigmentation
Due to excessive production of melanin, dark patches appear on the skin. It may be due to sun exposure, some medical issues or hormonal changes.
These all result in noticeable imperfections such as marks, spots, discoloration, or flaws that appear on the skin. All that can be called blemishes.
