Is it Safe to Colour Your Hair While You’re Pregnant?
Colouring is safe or not during pregnancy is not fully understood, and there is no clear data from medical experts. In some studies, harmful effects of chemicals were detected, while in some, no adverse effects were found.
Generally, it is recommended to avoid hair colour in the first trimester as the baby’s organs are in a rapidly developing stage. Additionally, especially avoid ammonia and peroxide-rich hair colour products, because these penetrate through the skin and harm the developing baby.
But, if you want to colour hair during pregnancy, it is advised to wait until your first trimester is complete and use peroxide-free products that contain very less ammonia. You can also use some other hair colours such as henna or vegetable-based dyes, considered to be safe.
Do consult your doctor or health professionals about using hair colour and making a change to your skincare routine.
